Item Description
This set includes three pieces: sunflower dangle and stud earrings and necklace. The dangle earring and necklace are made from painted maple wood with mother-of-pearl (dyed) center, and the stud earrings are made from painted maple wood with African padauk wood center.
A large heavy box arrived on my front porch in December 2019 and I had to use a wheelbarrow to move it into the back room of the house. It turned out to be a (K40) laser cutter, given to me as a Christmas gift from my brother! With a background in science and a love for art, this presented a perfect opportunity to pursue a new adventure in life making wooden jewelry! Cherry, Maple, and African Padauk are the primary species I use for jewelry, but have experimented with at least sixteen additional tree species. The wood species I use must have the perfect combination of uniform strength, density, hardness, "cuttability", and natural beauty. I find inspiration from many things, but mostly find design inspiration through conceptual patterns with movement and meaning often found in nature and abstract art.
ABOUT THE ARTIST
I live in the village of Boalsburg with my husband and cat. When I am not in the studio, you'll often find me hiking, biking, rock climbing with my hubby, or motorcycling on a sunny day!
