About: The Great Horned Owl
Commonly referred to as the "tiger of the skies", Great Horned Owls are the most common and most ferocious owl in North America. They are justifiable feared by most other raptor species. They are the largest owl that resides in Colorado with a wingspan that reach over 4 feet.
Their horizontally barred, buff chest is outlined at the neck with a thick, white collar. This "tufted" owl's large yellow eyes are surrounded by the buff and dark-brown, half-moon shaped feathers of the facial discs. Great Horned Owls exhibit a huge variation of color, ranging from nearly white to nearly black.
