Item Description
This serene figure, standing about 9” tall, is a lovely example of Cambodian art. Believed to be a tribute to one of Cambodia’s early and great kings, it is thought to depict Jayarvarman 7, born in 1120 and the first king devoted to Buddhism. He was the king who commissioned the building of the famed Bayon and Angkor Thom temple complexes as monuments to Buddhism. He also built many hospitals. This piece was donated by our friends at the Angkor Dance Troupe, and they believe the statute is made of wood, but no more is known about the statue.
