Item Description
Donated by our friends at Cambodian Living Arts, this DVD of The Flute Player by filmmaker Jocelyn Glatzer is hard to find. The film is part of the PBS archives.
PBS describes The Flute Player as a one-hour documentary film about the life and work of Cambodian genocide survivor Arn Chorn-Pond. Arn was just a boy when Cambodia's Khmer Rouge military regime took power in 1975. For four long years, Arn followed the strict orders of the Khmer Rouge — doing whatever it took to save his own life amidst torture, starvation and brainwashing. Music, and playing the flute, became his salvation and started the message of hope to which he has dedicated his life. Arn eventually escaped to Thailand where an American refugee worker adopted Arn and brought him to New Hampshire. The film focuses on how Arn has taken his very tragic past and turned it into something inspirational. He is striving to heal the deep scars of Pol Pot's genocide by bringing Cambodia's once outlawed traditional music back to his people. It is a truly inspirational film about a Cambodian, an adoptee, and an activist of hope and kindness.
If new, the value of this DVD is placed at $625 by The Center for Asian American Media. Since the package is opened, we are offering it at $95. As a bonus The Sharing Foundation will add in the CD “Mekong Delta Blues” by Master Kong Nay.
