Item Description

Travis Masch has made a third trip to his attic in as many years to produce yet another treasured volume as a donation to the Shambhala Sun auction, this time a signed copy of Thich Nhat Hanh's Transformation at the Base - Fifty Verses on the Nature of Consciousness.

In the past Travis has responded to the Foundation's requests with characteristic generosity, "I'll see what I have in my attic!" he says. As Parallax Press publisher his attic is unusually rich with possibilities.

Transformation at the Base: 50 Verses on the Nature of Consciousness was a finalist for the 2001 Nautilus award. It is a profound look at Buddhist psychology with insights into how these ancient teachings apply to the modern world.
Thich Nhat Hanh focuses on the direct experience of recognizing, embracing, and looking deeply into the nature of our feelings and perceptions. Presenting the basic teachings of Buddhist-applied psychology, he shows us how our mind is like a field, where every kind of seed is planted-seeds of suffering, happiness and joy, and sorrow and fear and how the quality of our life depends on the quality of the seeds in our mind. If we know how to water seeds of joy and transform seeds of suffering, then understanding, love, and compassion will flower. Published in 2001 this edition of Transformation at the Base is and no longer available to the public in hardcover format.

Parallax Press is the premier publisher of Thich Nhat Hanh, offering works for beginners, experienced practitioners, children, and families. It also publishes other important authors on socially engaged Buddhism, including the Dalai Lama, Joanna Macy, and Sister Chan Khong.

“We are committed to making these teachings accessible to everyone and preserving them for future generations,” says Travis. He heads up the small and dedicated staff, working together to create a workplace that mirrors the ideals of mindfulness and interbeing, that is communicated so beautifully in their books.
