DRAYTON HALL: One of the finest examples of Georgian architecture in America, Drayton Hall (c. 1738) is the oldest preserved plantation house that is open to the public. Following seven generations of Drayton family ownership, the house remains in nearly original condition and has never been modernized, providing an unmatched look at colonial living and its builders' creative craftsmanship. From serene river views and informative landscape walks to the rich stories of its people of European and African descent down through the centuries, Drayton Hall offers visitors a unique way to experience history in a rare and evocative setting.
MIDDLETON PLACE: This was the home of Henry Middleton, president of the First Continental Congress, whose son, Arthur, was a signer of the Declaration of Independence. Today, this National Historic Landmark includes America's oldest landscaped gardens, the Middleton Place House, and the Plantation Stableyards. The gardens, begun in 1741, reflect the elegant symmetry of European gardens of that period. Ornamental lakes, terraces, and plantings of camellias, azaleas, magnolias, and crape myrtle accent the grand design.
INN AT MIDDLETON PLACE: offers relaxing accommodations in an atmosphere of unsurpassed natural beauty. A recipient of the American Institute of Architects highest award, the Inn's design is a contemporary counterpoint to the adjacent 18th-century Middleton Place.
