Item Description

A private tour for up to ten (10) people of the Wharton Esherick Studio in Valley Forge, PA.
Wharton Esherick (1887-1970) was among the vanguard of artists who created an American sculpture style early in the 20th century.   Trained as a painter, Esherick found his bliss working with wood and blazed a trail for the new generation of craft artists that followed.
The Studio, which took Esherick 40 years to build, reflects the artists changing styles from organic to expressionist to the lyrical free forms for which he is best known.  On exhibition are more than 200 of his works, paintings, woodcuts, sculpture and furniture. Family and friends have preserved this unique place, now a National Historic Landmark. Work by other artists in wood can be seen in the gift shop, along with reproductions of Esherick’s woodcuts, and books and related publications.  Truly a unique experience for the artist in all of us.
