Cedar Grove is the home and studio of 19th-century artist Thomas Cole, founder of the Hudson River School of Art, where Cole lived, was married, and died at the age of 47. Today the site consists of the Federal style brick home (c. 1815), as well as Thomas Cole's original studio building containing his easel and tools, on landscaped grounds and gardens with a magnificent view of the Catskill Mountains. The new "Hudson River School Art Trail" provides a map to the nearby painting sites in the landscape, where visitors can see the actual views depicted in the paintings of the Hudson River School.
