The beautifully restored, stately Federal-style Hawthorne Hotel has been a unique and integral part of the Salem and Boston's North Shore ever since its completion in 1925. The hotel is named for author Nathaniel Hawthorne, who spent his childhood in Salem, returned in 1846 and wrote The Scarlet Letter in 1849 at his home in Salem. Each of its 89 rooms and 6 suites is individually furnished and tastefully appointed with 18th century style reproduction furnishings to reflect its own New England charm and character. Located in the Salem Common Historic District, the hotel is within walking distance of numerous historic sites and attractions.
The newly transformed Peabody Essex Museum presents art and culture from New England and around the world. In addition to its vast collections, the museum offers changing exhibitions, a hands-on education center, and award-winning museum shop, cafe and restaurants. The museum campus features numerous parks, period gardens and 24 historic properties.
