Item Description
A two-night stay with a continental breakfast in the main house of the elegant and historic John Rutledge House Inn, including daily newspaper delivered to your door, an informal afternoon tea served in the elegant second floor ballroom. Sherry and wine available for your enjoyment in the ballroom. This package includes a $50 certificate for dinner at the Circa 1886 restaurant.
John Rutledge, one of the fifty-five signers of the U.S. Constitution, built his home in 1763. Now exquisitly restored, it is one of only fifteen homes belonging to those signers to survive - and the only one to now accommodate overnight guests. History records that George Washington called here in 2791. A loving rejuvenation has restored the bautiful details of the home's 18th and 19th century architecture: the elaborately carved Italian marble fireplaces, the original plaster moldings, the inlaid floors and the graceful ironwork. A stay in this elegant antebellum home offers the opportunity to experience history as well as the warm hospitality for which the South is justly famous.
The award-winning Circa 1886 Restaurant is nestled in the gardens behind the Wentworth Mansion in downtown Charleston, and offers a true Charleston fine dining experience in a unique and intimate atmosphere. While in the area remember to visit Drayton Hall, a truly different historic country house tour, and a National Trust historic site (if you are a Trust member, your admission is free so remember to bring your card!)
