Item Description
Tour of the breathtaking Kukao'o Heiau and Mänoa Heritage Center's Native Hawaiian Garden for 10 persons.
An extraordinary link to the past, Kuka'o'o Heiau is the last intact walled Hawaiian temple in the greater ahupua'a, or land area, that stretches from the verdant cliffs of Manoa's waterfall-laced mountains to the shores of Waikiki.
Surrounding the heiau is the extraordinary Manoa Heritage Center Native Hawaiian garden, showcasing a stunning collection of plants native to Hawaii as well as those introduced by early Polynesian settlers. Food plants such as sweet potato, taro and sugarcane are found growing in an agricultural garden. Native plants, including many rare and endangered species, often with traditional medicinal or other beneficial properties, are being carefully cultivated and preserved here.
Manoa Heritage Center was founded in 1996 as a non-profit organization. Its mission is to preserve, interpret and share this historic property, and through that to promote thoughtful stewardship of the natural and cultural heritage of Hawaii.
Item Special Note
Tour length is one hour and must be arranged in advance. Site is not handicap-accessible; must be able to walk on stone pathway. All outdoors. Expires May 31, 2010.
