Item Description

Founded by the photography and naturalist family, the Blacklock Nature Sanctuary (BNS) is located in Moose Lake, Minnesota (120 miles north of the Twin Cities). It is used as a residency for artists, naturalists and friends. The two-bedroom Turtle House is fully furnished with modern kitchen, bathroom, natural wood interiors, fireplace and comfortably accommodates one to four people (in one queen and one double bed). Newly renovated studio space is also available on the BNS property: a painting/writing studio with a spectacular view, and a pole barn with a 30-ft. cement slab floor to accommodate large scale work, both with water and electricity.

The BNS Residence is situated on over 550 acres of land, overlooking a beaver pond and heron rookery, with groomed hiking and cross-country ski trails through pine and deciduous forests. The Munger paved bike trail is nearby. The autumn foliage is spectacular in October, the winter snows are deep and quiet, the spring wildflower season should not be missed, and summer brings warm days and cool nights. Pets cannot be accommodated.

To schedule your weekend stay when the Turtle House is not used for artist fellowships, please contact Catherine Jordan '72 at jorda021@tc.umn.edu or 612-823-6257.
