PBJ Connections is a non-profit organization providing emotional healing for youths and their families using an innovative program that brings together the clients, a therapist, and horses. The youths that we serve are struggling with mental health issues or exhibiting behavioral disturbances that are preventing them from succeeding at school or in the community. PBJ Connections uses activities with horses to help youths understand and control behaviors, improve self-esteem, gain insight into their issues, communicate more effectively, and build healthier relationships with their family and peers. We have a goal of raising over $25,000 during the 4th Annual Helping Horses Help Kids fundraising event. If we meet our goal, we will be able to fund 4 area school-based programs of 18 weeks each. By bringing together school intervention and our behavioral management program, we are helping trouble students remain in school and be successful students. This prestigious award recognizes outstanding charitable and volunteer efforts of NASCAR fans. Brenda was selected by The NASCAR Foundation board of directors, from hundreds of applicants around the country, all of whom have made a significant impact on the lives of children through volunteerism or charitable work during the past five years.
The award winner, to be determined through an online voting contest, will receive $100,000 for the children's charity of their choice. Brenda has selected PBJ Connections as her recipient charity. As a finalist, Brenda will earn a minimum $25,000 grant for PBJ Connections. Voting is under way and will run through midnight EST Dec. 1 on NASCAR.COM.
