Surmang Foundation has worked in Yushu, China for 10 years. Until Surmang built a clinic in 1992, people in this 97% ethnic Tibetan region had little access to health care. The biggest problems we work on are connected to the devastating effects of maternal and infant mortality.  We have treated over 150,000 patients for free in the past 10 years. In the last year we have drawn down maternal mortality to zero. We believe that every mother and child has the right to survival and no one should be denied quality health services because they are poor.

In our own clinic we’ve prototyped health care that is being used as a model for 4 other public health clinics.

This Auction benefits the clinic project of Surmang Foundation to bring health care to these ultra-poor people.

Auction items range from exotic vacation getaways to donated items guaranteed to delight and surprise. So, tell your friends, family, community. Let the bidding begin!

Now is your chance to not only get all the great items you want, but to do it knowing you are helping support our organization and mission.

  • We have served over 150,000 ultra-poor Tibetans in Qinghai for the past 10 years, providing free medical services and free meds. We want to overcome the health divide that keeps 40 million ultra-poor earn less than 1 yuan (US 14 ¢)/day) away from health services as a result of sex, geography, culture, language, income, or religion.
  • We have mobilized public health with a corps of 40 Community Health Workers. We have saved countless mothers and babies in a place where pregnancy is a life-threatening disease, having world-record high maternal mortality rates; where life expectancy is low because one in four children will not live past their second birthday. We have eliminated maternal mortality in our catchment.
  • We have brought quality medical services to a place that had no medical services, and still has no electricity, telephones, or running water.
  • We have trained two Tibetan doctors, Phuntsok Dongdrop and Sonam Drogha. We have introduced appropriate solar-powered technology such as ultra-sound and created IT and satellite connectivity for distance learning, consultation and referral.
