Starting on November 12 and ending on the evening of December 20, 2015 Youth Arts New York will be auctioning off a number of fun, unique items and beautiful art work to bid on to raise money for our organization, so we're asking for your help.

Hibakusha Stories passes the legacy of the atomic bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki in August of 1945 to a new generation and empowers them with tools to build a world free of nuclear weapons. Hibakusha Stories provides the opportunity for New York City high school students to hear eyewitness accounts of one of the most signicant events in human history. The survivors are called hibakusha. Hibakusha Stories is an initiative of Youth Arts New York, a 501(c) 3 charitable organization.

We have organized the showing of the Hiroshima Panels, folding wood panels completed by Japanese couple Iri and Toshi Maruki over a span of thirty-two years, from 1950-1982. In a classicbyobu format, vacillating between photographic realness and abstraction, the panels complicate, challenge, and deepen common perceptions of the nuclear bombing and its aftermath. For full programming see http://pioneerworks.org/events/

Six panels from the series will be on display in Pioneer Works for the exhibition: Petition (1955),Floating Lanterns (1968), Ghost (1950), Fire (1950), Death of American Prisoners of War (1971), and Crows (1972).

14 day-long programs from November 17 to December 18 at Pioneer Works Center for Art and Innovation, 159 Pioneer Street, Red Hook, Brooklyn.
