Animal Encounters Village - Located in Jungle Jack’s Landing, this unique area gives you, the Zoo guest, a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to make a close, personal connection with some of the animals that call the Zoo home. You may come face to face with a wallaby or see a cheetah on stage. Every day offers a new encounter and a new way to connect to the Zoo on a personal level.

Animals on Safari - Have you ever seen a kangaroo inflate a tire? A dog jumping rope? You’ll see this and more when you come to the Animals on Safari show! Created specifically for the Columbus Zoo and Aquarium by world-renowned animal trainer Joel Slaven, you’ll be amazed at what these animals can do as they prepare the set for a TV show. The show’s animal stars are mostly dogs and cats, but there are some exotic animals who prove their star status on stage too. Best of all – all of the animals are rescues and many of the dog and cat stars came from shelters and rescue groups right here in Central Ohio!  It’s an experience you won’t want to miss – and you’ll be amazed and entertained at how talented animals can be! The show’s gates close promptly at show time.

Discovery Reef Diver - Learn about the tropical fish and coral reefs in Discovery Reef from someone who’s swimming among them! Each day, Discovery Reef will feature a diver in its main tank. You’ll get to see some of the food we feed our fish and learn about what makes coral reefs such diverse, beautiful, and amazing habitats. You’ll also get to learn about what the Columbus Zoo and Aquarium does to preserve these habitats around the world.

Habitat Hollow - Food. Water. Shelter. Space. Together, these four things make a habitat. Without all four in place, no animal will be able to live. At Habitat Hollow, children can explore everything that goes into making a habitat – and which habitats can be found in Ohio.  Including My House, My Backyard and My Barn, Habitat Hollow is a fun and interactive area located in the North America region of the Zoo. Created from recycled materials and designed as a magical storybook place about wild life and wild places, colorful, interactive exhibits are used to engage our youngest visitors, ages two to 10. Children may jump, climb, crawl and tumble as they explore the beauty of the marsh, forest, and prairie habitats housed within My House. The visit to My House culminates in the kitchen, where our visitors can learn ways they can help the environment.  Outside of My House, Habitat Hollow offers a real prairie, wetland, and forest habitat full of Ohio’s native species. The path outside of My House ends at My Barn, where guests and their children can have hands on interactions with the many animals that call My Barn home.

Kangaroo Walkabout - Get close to one of the world’s weirdest and most wonderful animals from Down Under – experience the Kangaroo Walkabout. You’ll fully immerse yourself in the kangaroos’ world as you meander around their habitat, sharing the same open space as these amazing animals. The kangaroos are free to move throughout their area, so you might just get to see one hop across the path right in front of you. A knowledgeable Zoo staff person will be there to answer your questions about the kangaroos – and you’ll leave feeling like you just had a trip to Australia – all without the jet lag!

Little Explorers’ Base Camp - Looking for a new way to spend time with your preschoolers and toddlers at the Zoo? Little Explorers is a great opportunity for your little ones to play, learn about animals or make a new friend! These areas are designed to encourage exploration through puzzles, books, tools and activities.

Lorikeets - Explore the wonder of the Lorikeet Garden and experience the wonder of these beautiful birds – up close and personal! You’ll be able to wander through the lorikeets’ world, losing yourself in their brightly beautiful plumage. To get even closer to the action, you can purchase nectar to feed the birds and experience what it’s like to be a living bird feeder!

My Barn - Sheep, goats, and chickens call My Barn home. Located just outside of My House at Habitat Hollow, My Barn offers guests and their children the opportunity to interact with and learn about some of the domesticated animals that people have come to depend upon. You won’t want to miss this singular opportunity to get up close and personal with some amazing barnyard animals.

Reptile Keeper Lab - Come face to face with some of the most interesting and amazing animals on the planet – reptiles! From snakes to turtles, reptiles can be found in just about every environment on earth. Some are dedicated and loving parents, some are incredible and cunning predators. The Reptile Keeper Lab, located in the Reptile Building in the Shores region of the Zoo, offers you the chance to get up close and personal with some of the reptiles that live at the Zoo. You can even pet some of the reptiles, so don’t miss your chance to connect with some of nature’s most beautiful and engaging animals.

Tide Pool Touch Tank - Ever wonder what it feels like to touch a sea star? Or come face-to-face with a horseshoe crab, one of the most ancient species on the planet? Visit the Tide Pool Touch Tank at Discovery Reef and you’ll be able to have a one-of-a-kind experience with some of the most interesting creatures of the deep!
