Item Description
"How to Make Japanese Onigiri Rice Balls" Workshop by Rice & Miso Everyday's Mika.
The owner of Rice & Miso Everyday, Mika will come to your kitchen and teach how to make rice balls with different fillings (tuna mayo and kombu seaweed) and miso soup from the scratch.
Rice balls, known as Onigiri, are the most traditional snacks in Japan and have been around since before the 11th century. They are frequently the center piece of bento boxes in the same way a sandwich in a lunch box is in America. You can find them in every convenience store and to go stands. There is no doubt it is the quintessential Japanese soul food. In this class you'll learn what kind of rice is suitable for making the "ball". Brown rice is the most nutritious grain of all other rice but it's tricky to cook properly for rice balls. Mika will show you how you can make the brown rice soft and fluffy so even little kids can enjoy eating it. She will also introduce different types of fillings for rice balls. For the rest of the class, you will learn how to make basic miso soup step by step, from making the broth to mixing the miso paste. You'll be able to enjoy both dishes at the end of class.
